Scaling the AI Office at EchoStar
Discover how EchoStar’s AI Office uses advanced cloud tech and decades of insight to empower our field teams, employees and customers.
Evolving into an AI-first company isn’t about the software you use, but about the culture you build. Our AI Enablement Day was an immersive, company-wide event that equipped team members with innovative tech solutions and educational workshops, designed to bridge the gap between ‘what if’ to ‘what’s next’ for our AI evolution. With this top-down commitment to AI, EchoStar is seeing a fundamental shift in how every team member thinks, creates and solves problems.
AI Enablement Day at EchoStar
We are moving away from the lecture learning format and leaning into interactive sessions that spark real engagement. To bring this to life, our AI and technology teams developed a custom, interactive game that encouraged all EchoStar team members to engage with demos from our partners, sponsors and internal teams.
As colleagues explored various stations, they collected digital avatars along the way. Those who completed the full circuit and gathered every avatar were entered into a company-wide raffle. This helped every team member, regardless of their role, have hands-on opportunities to explore the latest AI tech.
Interactive Insights
To ensure the educational workshops served all business areas, we organized the sessions into specialized paths. This encouraged team members to explore AI through the lens of their own daily work:
A standout moment was the workshop "Using AI to Supercharge Your Professional Development." The session received overwhelming positive ratings, highlighting a shared drive to grow alongside AI. This drive fueled our pitch activity, where team members across departments presented their most disruptive AI concepts to our leadership panel.
At our core, we believe that innovation should serve a purpose. While we accelerated our AI roadmap, we also looked outward to our community. Through various activities during the day, we raised funds for SungateKids, ensuring that as we move toward the future, we are supporting the local community that helps us thrive.
While many companies view AI as a distant strategy, EchoStar is bringing it to life in a way that directly impacts our customer experiences and how we connect families and communities. Our leadership panel, featuring EchoStar leaders Christina Sansone, Kara Rector, and Sarah Nichols, and moderated by Nevash Pillay (Global Head Communications, Databricks) discussed how the goal is to treat AI as a trusted advisor, not as a replacement. The panel challenged all team members to lean into learning opportunities with an innate desire to make processes better, noting that we only have one shot to make a great first impression with our AI-driven customer solutions. This shift involves a change in how we view the workforce. Rather than molding new team members into "how things have always been done," the panel highlighted the importance of embracing the fresh, AI-native perspectives of the next generation.
“You have to approach AI with curiosity. Change is scary but remain curious on how you can adapt what you do every day and how to use AI to be more efficient, effective, and strategic. If you lack curiosity, you’ll get left behind.”
— Kara Rector, Head of Retail Wireless Technology Product and Programs
By approaching these tools with innate curiosity rather than fear, we empower our teams to automate the mundane and refocus on what matters: personalizing experiences for an "audience of one" while keeping our innovation fundamentally human-centric.
Our commitment to an AI-first future is backed by data. This quarter, we saw a massive surge in engagement that reflects the palpable energy across our offices:
By using AI to optimize our own planning, we saved 33 hours on administrative tasks for this event alone.
At EchoStar, being AI-first means being people-first. AI Enablement Day proves AI isn’t just for the few, but for the many. Marie Nelson, Senior Program Manager for the AI Office, along with a committee of team members dedicated to becoming an AI-first company, facilitated interactive workshops designed for all roles. From personalizing professional growth to supporting our community through SungateKids, we ensure our technological evolution remains fundamentally human-centric. If you’re ready to bring your curiosity to a team that is actively building the future, we’d love for you to join us on this journey.
